Congratulations to all our Graduates and your families! This year’s ceremony is set to be held in person at the W.E. Anderson Stadium on the Langston campus on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Use #LUGRAD24 to tag tweets and photos before, during and after commencement!

Please be aware that the following items are not permitted in the W.E. Anderson Stadium:
Umbrellas, outside food/beverages and weapons of any kind.

Concession stands will have drinks and food available for purchase from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Cash and credit/debit cards will be accepted.

CAP, GOWN, & TASSEL: Cap, gown and tassels are required to participate in commencement. All three of these items can be purchased at the campus bookstore. The prices for these items (taxes not included) can be found below:

  • Bachelor’s Package ($37) – Cap, Gown, Tassel
  • Master’s Package ($39) – Cap, Gown, Tassel
  • Master’s Hood ($34)
  • Doctoral Unit ($51 rental) – Tam with Bullion Tassel
  • Doctoral Hood ($29 rental)

If you would like to call and speak with a member of the Follett bookstore on campus, please feel free to do so by dialing: (405) 466-3374 or (405) 883-9095. If there are still supplies left by rehearsal, you may purchase your items on campus at the bookstore until 4:00 p.m.

UNDERGRADUATE ONLY: Honors Cords (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude) and department honors cords may be purchased at the Follett Bookstore on campus. For more information, please call the bookstore at (405) 466-3374 or (405) 883-9095.

CAP DECORATIONS: If you choose to decorate your cap, please find the requirements/guidelines below:

  • Decorations should not extend over the brim of the hat.
  • There will be no vulgarity on hat.
  • No alcohol or drug images/paraphernalia will be allowed.
  • Decorations should be no more than ½ inch in height.
  • You must email your design for approval to jabusby@langston.edu.

MANDATORY REHEARSAL: Friday, May 3, 2024
• Must attend rehearsal to participate in the ceremony on May 4, 2024.
• Students will report to I.W. Young Auditorium from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
• Students will receive their name card to fill out. These will be used for pronunciation of names and photography for the day of Commencement.
• Students will receive graduate medallions.

COMMENCEMENT DAY: Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
• Students are to arrive no later than 8:00 a.m.
• If late, the student(s) will not be able to participate in the commencement.
• Students will report to the I.W. Young Auditorium.
• Parking is open.
• Bring your name card (provided at rehearsal). These will be used for pronunciation of names and photography at the Ceremony.

Commencement Day

This year, we are not requiring tickets for an outdoor commencement. Should inclement weather arise, two ceremonies will be held inside the C.F. Gayles Gymnasium. One at 10 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. In this case, tickets will be mandatory.

Traffic is heavy around Langston University during events. Parking is available at no cost, and no passes are required for general parking in any open lot. Parking on the grass on campus is strictly prohibited as campus beautification is in progress.

Golf carts will be available to assist in transporting guests to the stadium. Handicapped seating is available, and parking is available in front of the physical plant building. EMS services will be available.

• Commencement Rehearsal will take place at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, May 3, in W.E. Anderson Stadium. This is required for all students and marshals who are confirmed to attend Commencement on Saturday. You do not have to attend but are welcome to if you want to see the layout.
• The Langston University Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the W.E. Anderson Stadium.
• Continental breakfast will be available beginning at 7:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Gymnasium. Optional, not mandatory.
• All faculty and staff participating must arrive by no later than 8:30 a.m. and report to Multipurpose Gymnasium. Please stay in the Multi to keep the hallways clear. Please do not arrive late.
• All parking lots will be open. No decals will be enforced that day. The north and south entrances will be open to assist with travel flow.
• Please wear comfortable, but professional, shoes. Pointed heels may cause unbalanced walking on the field. You are encouraged to wear wedged or flat shoes. The turf field will likely be 10-15 degrees warmer than the temperature of the ambient air.
• Temperature highs are expected to be in the 80s, so we encourage you to wear lightweight clothing under gowns due to the elevated temperatures. Water will be available for all participants on the field.
• Full regalia must be worn.
• As a reminder, please remember this is mandatory for you to attend. Please do not bring your children onto the field with you for the ceremony.

Faculty

• Volunteers will meet prior to the commencement date. Specific instructions and assignments will be given during those meetings.
• In addition, we ask that the volunteers be present for the rehearsal scheduled on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
• On commencement day, all volunteers will be asked to arrive by 7:15 a.m. in Multipurpose Gymnasium. Please do not arrive late.
• Continental breakfast will be available beginning at 7:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Gymnasium.

All vendors will need to be prepared to attend the mandatory rehearsal and report to the stadium on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Vendors should plan to arrive at 7:15 a.m. and report to the Stadium on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
